Lantern Festival is a traditional festival in China, which is on the 15th night of the first month of the lunar calendar, also known as the Shangyuan Festival and the Lantern Festival.
The Lantern Festival began more than 2000 years ago in the Western Han Dynasty, when Emperor Ming advocated Buddhism. It was said that Buddhist monks observed Buddhist relics and lit lamps to worship Buddha on the 15th of the first month, so they ordered to light lamps to worship Buddha in the Imperial Palace and temples on that night, so that all the gentry and common people would hang lamps.
In the Qing Dynasty, dragon dance, lion dance, dry boat race, stilt walking and yangko dance were added, but the festival period was shortened to four to five days.
